After losing Rs 3 lakh in online gaming, 25 YO engineer ends life in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: Seemingly depressed over losing huge money in online gambling, a 25-year-old engineer ended his life at his residence in Anakapalle Town of Visakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh.

Though the incident took place on Saturday night, it came to light on Sunday after the police registered a case.

Identified as D Venkat Aravind, he was working as a Junior Engineer in a private mining firm at Rayagada in Odisha.

An online gaming freak, Venkat Aravind had come his home-town three days back.

On Saturday night, Aravind was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his room.

Friends and relatives of the deceased said that Aravind had slipped into depression after losing over Rs 3 lakh in the online gaming.

A police team led by sub-inspector of Anakapalle Town Police, V Chakradhara Rao reached the spot and shifted the body to a mortuary for autopsy.

“We have seized Aravind's mobile phone. He had sent a message to his friend after he lost money in online gaming. However, we have to investigate the case from multiple angles to establish in which online gaming he lost the money,” Chakradhara Rao said.

A case under Section 174 of CrPC (unnatural death) was booked and the investigation has been put on the fast track.

Left party leaders in Andhra Pradesh have demanded a ban on online gaming in Andhra Pradesh.
