On Thursday, while granting relief, Court directed Chidambarams to join the probe. "In event of arrest, they be released on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of like amount. The accused are directed to join the investigation," the court said.
CBI judge O.P. Saini observed that "considering the distance of time between the commission of an alleged crime and the filing of the instant applications, unexplained delay in investigation, there being no possibility of Chidambarams tampering with the evidence or threatening any witness or fleeing from justice."
After Court's order, Karti posted a series of tweets in which the first one read with a smiley, "We win some too :)"
However, earlier in the day, the Supreme Court refused to grant protection to the former Union minister, who has been in the custody of the CBI in the INX Media case. With this decision, ED can arrest the veteran Congress leader even if he gets bail in the CBI matter.
