Akkineni Nagarjuna to present 83’ in Telugu

Hyderabad: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film 83 is one of the most anticipated films of 2020. In a recent announcement, the makers revealed that the film will be dubbed in Telugu and will be presented by Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna. The actor will join hands with Reliance Entertainment and release the film in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The film is based on the iconic Indian cricket World Cup win of 1983 and is directed by Kabir Khan.

Confirming the news, Nagarjuna took to twitter and mentioned, “India won its first world cup in 83 & we still get goosebumps when we think of that moment. Very happy to present the Telugu version of the film 83 (sic)” #ThisIs83@RanveerOfficial @kabirkhankk @AnnapurnaStdios @deepikapadukone @Shibasishsarkar @ipritamofficial @vishinduri @RelianceEnt

Similarly, the film is also being dubbed in Tamil and Superstar Kamal Haasan will distribute it under his production house Raaj Kamal Films in association with Sashikanth's Y Not Studios and Reliance Entertainment.

With cricket being a popular sport across the country and with two southern superstars joining the bandwagon, the makers and the marketing team of the film believe that it has the potential to reach a wider audience.

The film will see Ranveer play the role of Kapil Dev and the film showcases the life of the former Indian captain and India’s triumph against the mighty West Indies in the 1983 World cup. Deepika Padukone will play the character of Romi Bhatia as Kapil Dev’s wife in the film. The film marks her first collaboration alongside Ranveer after their marriage in November 2018.

The film stars Jatin Sarna, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Boman Irani, Pankaj Tripathi and Tamil actor Jiiva among the ensemble cast. Ace music director Pritam is composing the music for the film. The film’s first look poster featuring Ranveer Singh replicating Kapil Dev’s iconic Nataraj shot has already garnered a lot of appreciation. Touted to be India’s biggest sports drama, the film is slated to release on April 10.
