Mahesh Babu to play a spy in his next film?

Hyderabad: Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu who is basking in the success of his latest blockbuster ‘Sarileru Neekevvaru’ is likely to play the role of a spy in his next film. The film will be directed by Vamshi Paidipally who earlier made ‘Maharshi’ with the actor. Mahesh who is currently holidaying with his family in the US will begin shooting from May.

According to sources, Vamshi will present Mahesh as a stylish undercover agent working on a secret mission. Mahesh had earlier played a spy in AR Murugadoss film ‘Spyder’ couple of years back which tanked at the box office. However, Mahesh is confident that Vamshi will showcase him in a different avatar which will be thoroughly entertaining to his fans.

There were earlier reports which suggested that Vamshi is remodelling Mahesh’s characterisation similar to that of his iconic film ‘Pokiri’. However, there was no confirmation from the makers.

According to reports, the film will be a slick action thriller, which also has elements of family drama and romance blended in it. The makers have roped in Thaman to compose the tunes for the film. Thaman, who is currently the most sought-after music composer in the industry post his massive success with the album of ‘Ala Vaikuntapurramulo’, will collaborate with the actor for the third time after ‘Dookudu’ and ‘Businessman’.

Meanwhile, his recent release ‘Sarileru Neekevarru’ has set the cash registers ringing at the box office and it is learnt that Mahesh is elated with the response the film garnered, especially at B and C centres. The film has collected more than Rs 100 crore at the box office and also raked in over 2 million dollars in the US market.

The film directed by Anil Ravipudi saw Mahesh essay the role of an army major and it also marked the return of senior actress Vijayashanti who was seen in a pivotal role in the film.
