Andhra cop demands Rs 5000 to release postmortem report, arrested

Visakhapatnam: The officials of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Gajuwaka police station in Vizag city for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000.

The DSP of ACB (Visakha urban), K. Ranga Raju, said the ASI, Suryanarayana, had demanded a bribe from the complainant, Naresh Kumar Patnaik, to issue a post mortem report of the latter's father and issue a section 41 (A) notice to grant station bail.

On 30 August, Naresh and his father were travelling on a motorbike when the latter slipped and fell. He died while undergoing treatment at King George Hospital (KGH) the next day, the ACB sleuths said.

The Gajuwaka police registered a case and Naresh who was riding the bike was named an accused. The ASI asked him to pay Rs. 5,000 for his father's post-mortem report and to issue section 41 (A) notice to Naresh.

Naresh approached the ACB officials who laid a trap on Tuesday and caught the ASI red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe. The officials said the ASI will be presented before the court on Wednesday.
