Andhra Pradesh records highest single-day spike of 210 Covid-19 cases

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh reported the highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases on Saturday as 210 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported, taking the total number of cases to 4,460 in the state.

The 210 cases are the highest single-day spike in Covid-19 positive cases in the state so far. The previous highest was 180 cases on June 3.

The spike in Covid-19 cases has been continuing in the state for the last few days. In a reprieve, the total number of people recovered from the virus surged past the 2,600 mark on Saturday.

Fortunately, no new Covid-19 deaths were reported on Saturday. The death toll remained 73 in the state.

The officials of the medical and family welfare department said that a total of 12,771 samples in the state were tested in the past 24 hours and among them 161 people tested positive.

The officials said that another 41 people who returned to parts of Andhra Pradesh from other states tested positive and also eight foreign returnees tested positive taking the cumulative total of fresh cases in the state to 210 on Saturday.

As many as 45 patients, including 16 people who returned from other states, recovered from the virus and were discharged from the hospital in the state in the last 24 hours.

The total number of those recovered from the Coronavirus in the state now stands at 2,600, including 274 people from other states and four foreign returnees. The total number of active Covid-19 cases in the state stands at 1,786 (1,192 from Andhra Pradesh, 467 and 127 from other states and foreign returnees respectively).

On the Covid-19 toll front, Kurnool district has reported 27 Covid-19 deaths (highest in the state) followed by Krishna district with 22 deaths and Guntur district with 9 deaths.

Four deaths each in Nellore, Chittoor and Anantapur districts were reported while East Godavari district reported two deaths and Visakhapatnam district reported one death.
