Andhra Pradesh reports 10K fresh COVID cases, inches closer to 5L
By Newsmeter Network Published on 6 Sep 2020 2:17 PM GMTVijaywada: Andhra Pradesh reported 10,794 new COVID-19 cases on 6 September, a record 12th consecutive day the state has reported over 10,000 cases a day. The latest figure pushes the state’s tally to 4,98,125 total cases which include 99,689 active cases, the second-highest in the country after Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, 70 people succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours, pushing the COVID-19 death toll in the state to 4,417.
On a good note, AP saw 11,915 recoveries across the state in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,94,019.
Nellore district continued to register more than 1,000 COVID-19 cases a day as it registered 1,299 positive cases on Sunday, followed by East Godavari with 1,244 cases, West Godavari with 1,101 cases and Prakasam with 1,042 cases. Kurnool district registered the lowest number of cases on Sunday, only 380.
As many as 72,573 samples were tested in the state in the past 24 hours. With this, the state has so far conducted 41,07,890 tests. Andhra Pradesh has tested 77,273 samples per million persons, more than double the national average of 33,655 tests. In the last week, the number of new infections has grown by an average of 2.5 per cent every day.
The state’s recovery rate stands at 79.1 per cent while the mortality rate was 0.9 per cent, lower than the national average of 1.7 per cent.
