Andhra Pradesh updates police insurance scheme; policy amount hiked after 20 years

Amaravati: YSRCP government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has made changes to the group insurance scheme for police after 20 years, increasing the policy amount.

The government, in a review meeting, decided to increase the group insurance amount for constables from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, whereas for inspectors it was hiked to Rs 35 lakh. The amount for the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and higher cadre officials have been increased to Rs 45 lakh.

The amount to be paid for unnatural/accidental deaths were increased to Rs 30 lakh, and the amount would move up to Rs 40 lakh for deaths in terrorist attacks. The state has paid an amount of Rs 4.74 crore to the insurance company to cover around 64,719 police personnel under the scheme.

AP Home Minister Mekathota Sucharitha, DGP Gautam Sawang, Additional DG Ravishankar Iyengar and the insurance company officials were present at the review meeting.

The Police officers’ Association thanked the Chief Minister for the government’s interest in the welfare of police employees’ families. Moreover, they added that the weekly off for police personnel had brought happiness to 64,000 police families, whereas the police changes in their insurance have strengthened their belief.
