Andhra starts NRI helpline to assist stranded NRIs from state

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated a helpline number for non-residential Indians from the state. The helpline cell is primarily intended to tackle issues of non-resident Keralites who are stranded in other countries due to the Corona virus.

Additional DGP for crime investigation department P.V Sunil Kumar told NewsMeter, "The cell was started on 30 March and we have already received grievances. The first was from a group of 71 students who are stranded in Britain. Our DGP has spoken to the deputy high commissioner for the UK on the matter."

He said the cell takes care of any issue pertaining to NRIs from Andhra Pradesh. "But since the outbreak of the pandemic, our focus will be on issues related to the virus. We will take the matter to the attention of the ministry of external affairs and public representatives."

The helpline number is 1800 102 2426 and WhatsApp number is 9440700830.

Meanwhile, invoking special powers, the district administration also took over the control of 31 private and corporate hospitals to treat Corona virus patients in Nellore district. District collector M.V Seshagiri Babu issued a special gazette notification on Sunday to take over the premises of 31 hospitals and convert them into COVID-19 facility.
