AP death toll breaches 500 mark, case load crosses 40,000 mark

Vijayawada: The Covid-19 death toll in Andhra Pradesh breached the 500 mark on Friday and mounted to 534 with 42 more people in the state succumbing to the virus in the last 24 hours. The Covid-19 cases in the state also breached the 40,000 mark and went up to 40,646 with 2,602 people getting infected by the virus in the last 24 hours.

The state’s Covid-19 tally jumped to 40,000 from 30,000 in just 5 days and the cases doubled in 11 days while the Covid-19 deaths doubled in just nine days in the state.

A total of 20,245 samples were tested between Thursday 9 am and Friday 9 am in which 2,592 persons from Andhra Pradesh and 8 from other states and 2 foreign returnees tested positive, taking the cumulative total to 2,602 cases on Friday.

Anantapur district reported six Covid-19 deaths while five deaths each were reported from Chittoor, East Godavari and Prakasam districts.

Four deaths each were reported from Guntur and West Godavari districts while three deaths each were reported from Kadapa and Vizag districts.

Kurnool, Nellore and Vizianagaram districts reported two deaths each while Krishna district registered one death.

In the last 24 hours, East Godavari district registered the highest number of Covid-19 cases, 643, in a single day followed by Guntur with 367, Chittoor 328 and Kurnool 315 cases .

A total of 837 persons from Andhra Pradesh recovered from the virus and were discharged from hospitals in the state in the last 24 hours.

With this, the number of discharged in the state increased to 20,298 while the active Covid-19 cases in the state stood at 19,814.

On the death toll front, Kurnool district continued to be on the top in the chart with 116 deaths followed by Krishna district with 86 deaths while Anantapur district has occupied third place in the chart with 58 deaths.

Chittoor district reported a total of 43 Covid-19 deaths while Guntur district reported 39 deaths, West Godavari 36, East Godavari 34 and Visakhapatnam 28
