AP is 10th state in India with over 10,000 COVID cases
By Newsmeter Network Published on 24 Jun 2020 9:05 AM GMTVijayawada: With 497 fresh Covid-19 cases (highest single-day spike in the state) registered on Wednesday, Andhra Pradesh’s tally jumped to 10,331 on Wednesday making it the 10th state in the country with over 10,000 Covid-19 cases after Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Haryana.
Ten more Covid-19 patients died in Andhra Pradesh, taking the state's death toll to 129 on Wednesday. This is the maximum number of deaths reported from the state on a single day.
Kurnool district reported four Covid-19 deaths while Krishna district reported three deaths and Guntur district reported two deaths. Srikakulam district reported one death.
Krishna district reported 43 Covid-19 deaths (highest in the state) followed by Kurnool district with 42 deaths and Guntur with 14 deaths. As many as 146 people were discharged from various treating facilities on Wednesday.
There are currently 5,423 active Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh with 4,779 cumulative recoveries and 129 deaths. Altogether 2,025 people who returned from other states and countries were found positive for the disease as of Wednesday.
Coming to local infections, Kurnool district alone contributed 1,483 cases, followed by Krishna district 1,132, Anantapur district 1,028, Guntur 891 and East Godavari 760.
The officials of the medical and family welfare department said that as many as 801 returnees from Maharashtra were diagnosed with the Covid-19 followed by Tamil Nadu 353, Telangana 267, Delhi 80 and Gujarat 46.
Of the 364 Covid-19 infections among the foreign returnees, Kuwait alone contributed 314 cases followed by Qatar 15, Saudi Arabia 11 and Kazakhstan 6.
A total of 36,047 samples (highest in a single day) were tested in the last 24 hours, from Tuesday 9 am to Wednesday 9 am in the state, and 448 tested positive.
Another 37 people who returned to parts of Andhra Pradesh from other states and 12 foreign returnees tested positive, taking the cumulative total of fresh cases in the state to 497 on Wednesday.
Twelve out of 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh reported Covid-19 deaths and so far, Vizianagaram district hasn’t reported any Covid-19 deaths.
