AP on edge, Coronavirus cases spike to 132
By Newsmeter Network Published on 2 April 2020 5:45 AM GMTVijayawada: A scare gripped Andhra Pradesh as coronavirus cases in the state have been increasing for the past two days and climbed to 132 cases with 21 tested positive in between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
While 43 cases were reported from 9 pm on Tuesday to 9 am on Wednesday, another 24 were added after 7 pm on Wednesday and 21 cases were reported from 10 pm on Wednesday to 9 am on Thursday. The officials of Medical and Family Welfare are in the opinion that the positive Covid-19 cases further, increase in the coming days.
Barring the two north coastal districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, all others registered corona cases in the state of the 21 fresh positive cases, 17 cases were reported in Nellore district alone.
With 20 positive cases, Nellore and Guntur district occupied top place in the state followed by Prakasam district with 17 cases, Kadapa and Krishna districts with each 15 cases, West Godavari 14 cases, Visakhapatnam with 11 cases, East Godavari 9 cases, Chittoor 8 cases.
Of the total 21 fresh positive cases, the majority of the cases are related to the Jamaat congregation in New Delhi. The quantum jump in the number of cases was solely on account of those who returned to various parts of the state from the Tabligh-e-Jamaat congregation.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said as many as 1,085 people from Andhra Pradesh had attended the Jamaat congregation in New Delhiand returned.
The unexpected spurt in Corona positive cases pushed the state administration into overdrive to place all the suspects under quarantine.
