Hyderabad: Politicians leave no stones unturned in their eagerness to name every programme after themselves. This time, it is Andhra Pradesh Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s turn, after whom an entire film contest has been named. The contest is organised by the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj department.
A poster of ‘Jaganmohanam’ Film Festival hosted by the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department has been doing its rounds on Twitter. According to the poster, the Panchayat Raj department is calling for short films of 2-minute duration on two themes: Panchayat secretaries and Grama volunteers. It also says that entries need to be submitted by November 25.
However, when Newsmeter corresponded with the film festival authorities, they have said that they are trying to withdraw the poster for now and that more details will be informed later. There is no clarity as to why the officials associated with the film festival are planning to withdraw the ‘erroneous’ poster from social media.
“The designing of the poster is over and we were planning on launching it. We do not know how the image leaked and went viral on social media. It will be better if it is out after being officially launched rather than being spread like this,” said Surya from Avera Tech, one of the officials associated with the event.
Upon asking if they have finalised on the name ‘Jaganmohanam’, the official replied, “Mostly we will use the same name. The real poster will be launched and finalised on Monday or Tuesday.”
A week back, the YSRC-led Andhra Pradesh government was in a fix after they began to paint all the village secretariats with its party colours. This had drawn severe criticism from across the state, which ultimately led to the suspension of the aforesaid village’s panchayat secretary. Former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had also received a lot of flak for renaming schemes after himself, with his ‘Chandranna’ brand in schemes like Chandranna Bima, Chandranna Sankranthi Kanuka, Chandranna Ramzan Taufa, Chandranna Christmas Kanuka among many others.
