AP records 52 Covid-19 deaths 3,693 cases, both highest in a day

Vijayawada: Over 52 people died, the highest in a single day so far, in Andhra Pradesh due to Covid-19 on Saturday, taking the death toll in the state to 586.

Across Andhra Pradesh, 3,963 new Covid-19 cases, highest in a single day so far, were also reported, taking the total case count to 44,609.

East Godavari district has contributed 12 Covid-19 deaths and 994 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours in the state. Eight deaths each were reported from Guntur and Krishna districts while seven people died of the virus in Anantapur district.

West Godavari district witnessed five deaths while Prakasam district registered four deaths. Nellore district reported three deaths while Vizag district reported two deaths. One death each was reported from Chittoor, Kadapa and Vizianagaram districts.

The Covid-19 cases in Andhra Pradesh increased at the rate of over 9.2 per cent in the last one week and from July 6, the daily spike in infections has been over 1,000 and more than 2,000 people have been testing positive every day for the last three days. On Saturday, around 4,000 (3,963 cases) were reported.

The first Covid-19 case in the state was reported on March 12 from Nellore and it took 103 days since then to reach the 10,000-mark. However, the subsequent 10,000 cases were reported in 12, seven and four days in the state.

Meanwhile, the first Covid-19 death was reported from Vijayawada on March 30. Over the next 48 and 33 days, the toll crossed 50 and 100, respectively. Since then, the number of days it took for the toll to increase by 50 came down drastically. It reached the 150-mark in just seven days, and then 200 over the next six days. While the next 100 deaths were recorded in eight days, it took six days for the overall toll to reach 500 from 300.
