AP team wins bronze in National Canoe Polo event
By Aiswarya Sriram Published on 28 Oct 2019 4:10 PM GMTHyderabad: A team from Andhra Pradesh has won bronze in the National Canoe Polo event organised by Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA) held in Punjab on October 25.
This is the first medal won by the AP team. The seven players in the team include V Chinna Babu (captain), V Jagadeesh, K Girish Babu, Ch Teja, D Venu Gopal, C Srinu, and A Satish. Karala Srinivas Rao headed the team.
Speaking to NewsMeter, V Chinna Babu said, āMy team practised only for five months. We had to go to Madhya Pradesh for practice, as Andhra Pradesh didnāt provide us with the basic facilities. It was a tough game for us, but we managed to get third.ā

Canoe Polo, is a water sport consisting of five players in a team. It is played in a rectangular swimming pool. Usually, it has similar features to football, where the team has to score a goal, which is suspended two metres above the water. They are allowed to use both their hands and paddle to control the ball. The game has not garnered much attention in India.
