Vijayawada: The newly constituted Special Enforcement Bureau under the leadership of Commissioner Vineet Brijlal is already showing results within no time.

The bureau has arrested a total 7,200 people in connection with the trade of illicit liquor and smuggling of liquor and sand in just 15 days. While 6,245 people were arrested in connection with the trade of liquor, 955 people were arrested in connection with the illegal trade of sand.

A total of 27520.5 litres of illicit liquor, 506039.5 litres of Jaggery wash, 27027kgs of black jaggery , 3280.7 litres of IMFL ( duty paid liquor) , 256.4 litres of beer ( duty paid liquor) , 12679.24 litres of IMFL ( NDPL) , 494.5 litres of beer , 663.7 kgs of Ganja , 119 litres of toddy and 1648 vehicles have been seized by the bureau between May 16 and May 30, 2020.

As far sand is concerned, a total of 485 cases have been booked, 730 vehicles and 29629.07 tonnes of sand have been seized by the bureau in the same period of time.

Speaking about the Operation, Commissioner Vineet Brijlal said, "Under the directions of the Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and close watch of the DGP Gowtham Sawang, for the first time ever , integration of various law enforcement departments dealing with excise laws is taking place at a cutting edge level. A mega drive to crackdown on the illegal businesses of sand, liquor and other banned substances has been launched. No person involved in such activities will be spared at any cost. The statistics of the first 15 days reflect the seriousness with which SPs who are our captains on ground are dealing with this issue."
