Police found the attack was planned by their rivals in the TRS due to an ongoing dispute over gaining control in the party at the local-level. While Sunitha and her family members escaped unhurt in the attack, the locals chased the attackers and caught more than five persons and handed them to the police. A case under charges of attempt to murder and Arms Act has been registered at Chityala police station.
According to the police, Sunitha’s family had come to their native village, Perepally in Chityala mandal, to celebrate her husband Venkatesh’s birthday. While the family was busy in the celebrations, unidentified persons arrived in four cars. They barged into the house and tried to attack the Kolanu couple and others.
However, as they raised alarm, the attackers took to their heels. Alerted by the couple, the villagers chased the attackers and caught them on the outskirts of the village. Later, it was found that one of the attackers is an old offender belonging to the same village and he had been tipping off the rival gang about the couple’s movements in the village.
More than 10 people involved in the attack fled the village in their cars. Inquiries revealed that the attackers had come to the village from Hyderabad and were hired by the rival gang to kill Sunitha and Venkatesh.
Special teams had already been deputed to nab the absconding attackers.
Rivalry between Sunitha and the others began after Sunitha won as the MPP in the recent elections. Earlier, Venkatesh had lost in the sarpanch election. However, the other group could not tolerate Venkatesh’s wife winning the MPP election.
