Auto driver gets seven years jail for molesting 7-year-old girl

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old auto-driver has been sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for molesting a seven-year-old girl in 2018. A special court in Nampally that deals with POCSO cases (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences), also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on 10 February.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Nayeem, used to pick up the girl from her school and drop her home every day. On 29 September, 2018, the girl came home crying and told her parents that Nayeem had molested her after dropping all the other students home. He had also threatened her from reporting the incident to anyone. The girl's parents had filed a complaint with the police.

While the accused had pleaded not guilty, the special court found him guilty of sexual offence against the minor. The accused, a resident of Murad Nagar, has been charged under Section 9 (m) and Section 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault on a child below 12 years of age) of the POCSO Act, and Section 354 (outrage to modesty) of the IPC .
