COVID-19: Automatic thermal scanners at Hyderabad, Secunderabad railway stations

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has installed two bullet thermal cameras at Hyderabad and Secunderabad stations to check the temperatures of passengers travelling in trains. The thermal image screening camera assesses the body temperature of the passengers which will help authorities determine whether it is safe to allow the person to travel.

According to Railway officials, passengers are expected to stay within the camera’s focus range so that it can record their body temperatures which will then be displayed on the LED monitor as real picture along with 30 thermal images within the coverage area. Further, the passenger's body temperature recorded by the camera will be exhibited on the LED screen as a text message followed by an audio alert. The camera, which costs Rs. 4.4 lakh per unit, will be able to screen passengers standing in two different lines simultaneously, which is around 30 passengers within its range.

The thermal screening device has been set up at the Hyderabad and Secunderabad railway stations to reduce the screening time for each individual. Earlier, a thermal gun was used for the screening process which took longer. The SCR is planning to install two more cameras at the Secunderabad station this week.
