Balanagar Police detains postal employees for burning undelivered letters

Hyderabad: Balanagar police has detained eight persons, including postal employees, who were allegedly involved in dumping undelivered letters and notices of customers and setting them on fire. Heaps of burnt letters, notices and other communication-related material, to be delivered to several hundreds of people, were found near a brick-making company at Rampally in Balanagar Industrial area.

A few days ago, passersby noticed heaps of bags belonging to the Postal department packed with letters, set on fire at Rampally and alerted the police and fire teams. The fire was put off and the burnt letters were seized. Further, the police informed the postal department about the incident.

Accordingly, officials from the postal department lodged a complaint with the police and subsequently, a case was registered. On inquiry, the undelivered letters and notices packed in the bags were found to be of IDPL post office. Further inquiries revealed that a few postal staff along with their associates abandoned the letters at the spot and set them on fire.

Based on the despatch details of the bags and other clues, police identified the staff and their associates involved in the offence and detained eight persons in connection with the case. They are being questioned to know the motive behind the offence. Further investigation is underway, said, police officials.
