Bhogapuram Airport to be completed by 2023: AP government

Vijayawada : The Andhra Pradesh government has set the 2023 deadline for completing Greenfield Bhogapuram International Airport.

On Wednesday, special secretary to industries and infrastructure Karikala Valavalan held a review meeting with the revenue and other senior officials at the Vizianagaram collector’s office.

“To start the construction work at the earliest, we have to complete the land acquisition process. The new international airport would be a driving force for the development of the north coastal Andhra Pradesh,’’ he said.

He said after completion of land acquisition, the site should be handed over to the GMR Group for construction work. The airport needed 2,750.78 acres, of which 2,383.02 acres have been acquired so far. Bhogapuram

He asked the officials to acquire the remaining 71 acres expeditiously and hand it over to the GMR Group.

Valavlan enquired about the private lands, assigned lands, government lands and the lands under court litigation. The RDO told the special secretary that two housing colonies were being built for the families of four villages whose lands were acquired.

About the plans to compensate the displaced families, he said, the 376 families displaced by the project would be accommodated in the housing colonies. Roads and drainage systems have been completed in the housing colonies, he added.

Earlier, the collector Dr. M Harijawaharlal and joint collector GC Kishpore held discussions with the special secretary to discuss the problems of land acquisition and rehabilitation. Bhogapuram
