Bhongir MLA donates Rs 50L for isolation ward at AIIMS BB Nagar
By Ashish Bhosale Published on 18 Aug 2020 9:11 AM ISTHyderabad: Moved by the plight of poor COVID patients, Bhongir MLA P. Shekhar Reddy donated Rs 50 lakh to set up an additional 50 bedded isolation ward at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), BB Nagar.
The MLA inaugurated the center at AIIMS on Sunday. A team of 10 doctors, 12 ward boys, and nurses, 15 sanitation staff will take care of COVID patients.

“I was moved when I saw the situation of poor COVID patients who cannot afford the treatment in private hospitals. Due to the rise in cases, government hospitals are overburdened and have a shortage of beds. Hence, I decided to contribute for the benefit of people,” Reddy told NewsMeter.
He said they are already providing medicines; fruits and dry fruits to COVID affected patients in his constituency.
“The most important thing that COVID patents need for recovery is nothing but moral support. I have asked doctors to provide an additional supplementary diet so that the patient recovers early. I hope my contribution will help the poor," he said.
Dr Shambasiva Rao, DMHO, Yadadri, Bhongir, said of the 50 isolation beds, 20 are equipped with a centralized oxygen line. “MLA sir has asked us not to hesitate for any kind of financial help. Apart from the diet, the government is providing, Shekar Reddy sir has himself funded for extra supplementary diet for poor COVID patients which include fruits, dry fruits, etc", he said
A doctor at the isolation center said MLA has been helping anyone who has a problem. "He told us that this ward is not just for the people of his constituency. Anyone who needs treatment for COVID can be admitted,” he said.
