Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday imposed Rs 35,000 fine on four business houses for using LED display lights for advertisements.

Acting on a complaint by city activist Sai Teja, Zonal Commissioner of Kukatpally Housing Board Mamatha Vankayalapati fined LOT mobiles, Happi Mobiles, BIG C and Celekt Mobiles for using unauthorized moving LED display lights for advertisements.

A fine of Rs 10,000 each has been imposed on Happi Mobiles, LOT Mobiles and Big C mobiles. Likewise, a fine of Rs 5,000 has been imposed on Celeket mobiles.

The establishments were fined for violating sections 420 and 421 of GHMC Act 1955.

Sai Teja, who is the Vice President of Forum Against Corruption, praised Kukatpally Zonal Commissioner for swift action against the violators.

“I wish ground staff takes inspiration from the Zonal Commissioner Kukatpally and work proactively. If all of them discharge their duties like her, nobody can stop GHMC from becoming the world-class institution", said Sai Teja.

Mamatha Vankayalapati told Newsmeter that all the four establishments were using unauthorized LED display lighting for advertisements.

“We imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 each on Happi Mobiles, BIG C, LOT mobiles and a fine of Rs 5,000 on Celekt mobiles. We request all the shopping malls and mobiles shops not to use moving LED display screens because they cause inconvenience to the citizens," said Zonal Commissioner Kukatpally.
