Biryani helps Nuzvid police win AP’s Best Crime Detection award

Vijayawada, August 13: Nuzvid police in Krishna district has won Award for Best Crime Detection (ABCD) for cracking rape case of a minor girl within 36 hours in February this year.

In fact, a leftover biryani packet and water bottles at the crime scene helped Nuzvid police to solve the case. Police arrested the accused within 36 hours after the case was registered.

The heinous crime was reported on February 28 when an 8-year-old girl was waiting for her father. The accused A Venkateswara Rao, 35, offered help to trace her father.

However, he took her to an isolated place and raped her. Later he dumped her in the bushes near IIIT-Nuzvid in Krishna district.

Crying with pain, the victim was found by a police patrol team led by Inspector P Ramachandra Rao.

The CCTV footage in the locality did not help the police as the images were blurred and the accused was unrecognizable. Taking the case as a challenge, Krishna district's Superintendent of Police M Ravindranath Babu formed eight special teams to nab the accused.

Police later found a leftover biryani packet which had the markings of and address of a restaurant. Plus some water bottles were also found at the crime scene which helped the investigation nab to zero in on the accused.

Working on the clues, police examined the CCTV footage at the restaurant and identified the accused. The accused turned out to be the waiter of the restaurant.
