BJP candidate prevented from filing MPTC nomination in Chittoor

Chittoor: The Sodam police have registered a case against two people who tried to prevent a local BJP candidate from filing nominations for the MPTC on 9 March. According to the police, Syed Basha and Imran Basha tried to take away the nomination papers of K. Hari Babu while he was on his way to the MPDO’s office to file nominations.

After some heated argument, Mr Hari Babu finally filed his nomination papers. Security staff at the MPDO office who witnessed the tussle informed higher officials about the same. However, no one has come forward to lodge a complaint about the incident. Based on the information provided by head constable A. Hema Rao, the Sodam police registered a suo moto case against the two men on 10 March and started an investigation.

SP S. Senthil Kumar said measures would be taken to conduct the polls in a free and fair manner. He warned that they would take stern action against any such illegal activities. He suggested that political leaders and their followers respect the guidelines of the Election Commission and act according to law. The SP also appealed to the public to inform the local police about any malpractices by the candidates and any activities in their surrounding areas that disturb the peace and tranquility.
