Blast at Aparna construction site in Madhapur kills worker

Hyderabad: A blast at a construction site owned by Aparna Constructions at Madhapur killed a woman labourer working at the site on June 27. More than fifteen workers working at the site at the time of the accident, had a narrow escape.

According to police, the works at the site located in Khajaguda began a year ago, but during the lockdown, they were stalled. The construction work resumed after the lockdown restrictions were relaxed. The victim N Lingamma, was also working at the site for around a month. On Saturday afternoon, while the workers were busy working in the site, the contractors took up rock blasting, without any prior information to the workers. A huge stone from the blast hit Lingamma. She received multiple injuries and died on the spot, while other workers ran for safety.

Police found that though it is mandatory for the contractor to vacate all the workers from the site at the time of the blast, he allowed workers in the site and made them to continue working even during the blast, resulting in the death of a worker.

Madhapur police registered a case of causing death due to the negligence against the contractor and started investigation.

It may be noted that Aparna Constructions is a reputed construction firm in the city and has projects all over Hyderabad, mostly in the IT corridor and in the western part of the city. According to its website, it has so far executed around 39 construction projects, most of them for residential purposes.
