Bollywood actress Payal Rohatgi arrested for social media post about Motilal Nehru

Hyderabad: Rajasthan police arrested Bollywood actress Payal Rohatgi for posting objectionable content on social media platforms. Reportedly, her posts are against the unity of the nation, affecting the internal and sensitive relations with other countries. The post also benefits enemy nations, causes harm to a woman’s character, besides spreading obscenity and hurting the religious beliefs of people.

The actress posted the video on September 21, 2019, on Facebook, and it is still available. Many have slammed Payal for posting the video deliberately, with a criminal mindset. Officers booked her under Sections 66D and 67 of the IT Act, based on a complaint.

The complainant accused Payal of her comments in the video. In the video, she had claimed that Motilal Nehru was not Jawaharlal Nehru’s father, but his stepfather. She further said, “Mubarak Ali was Jawaharlal Nehru’s actual father. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is not the biological daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru.”

Payal went on to talk about the death of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, which might affect our relationship with Russia. In the video, the actress said, “Indira Gandhi manipulated Lal Bahadur Shastri to go to USSR and sign the Tashkent Treaty. There, he died the next day due to poisoning and not cardiac arrest.”

She also mentioned a few things that have hurt the religious beliefs of Hindus. Payal has also posted regarding the same topics on Twitter on September 6. The complainant had submitted a recorded CD of the statements given by her.

Expressing her disappointment on the arrest, Payal Rohatgi took to Twitter to talk about her anguish. She said, “I am arrested by @PoliceRajasthan for making a video on #MotilalNehru which I made from taking information from @google. Freedom of speech is a joke. @PMOIndia @HMOIndia (sic).”
