Borabanda cops, GHMC official harassed me, extort money : Homeopathic doctor

Hyderabad: A homeopathic practitioner from Borabanda has accused two police constables and GHMC official of harassment and extortion.

Dr. Parimala Jyothi has approached the police alleging that a Sanitary Field Assistant working at GHMC Circle 19 and two constables of SR Nagar police station demanded Rs two lakh from her. She said the trio threatened to cancel her licence and book her in false cases.

According to sources, the victim is running a clinic at Borabanda area. During the COVID 19 pandemic also, she had been treating patients with remedial measures and other precautionary medications.

Meanwhile, the GHMC official and two police constables, who got a whiff of her clinic, conducted ‘raids’ on the premises on Tuesday. She informed police that the trio created ruckus and scared away the patients.

She said the cops told her that she was running the clinic without valid permission and that she would have to face legal consequences. She said they demanded Rs 2 lakh in cash from her. However, they later settled for Rs one lakh cash. After receiving the cash, the GHMC sanitation officer gave her a receipt for Rs 5,000 and directed her to pay the fine amount as a penalty.

Shocked, she approached the GHMC zonal office at Khairatabad and found that the receipt was invalid and that she had been cheated by the trio.

Accordingly, she lodged a written complaint at the SR Nagar police station, seeking action against the trio for harassing and extorting money.

Speaking to media persons, Inspector SR Nagar V Narsimha Reddy said that an inquiry is underway into the allegations made by the victim. “Based on the findings, the further course of action would be decided,” he said.
