Amaravati: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu emphasised the significant potential for electronic component manufacturing in regions like Sri City, Hindupur and Kopparthy in Rayalaseema.
During a review meeting on Monday at the Secretariat, he examined the newly drafted Electronics Components Manufacturing Policy 4.0, which aims to attract major investments in the electronics sector for the period 2025-30.
$70 billion worth of electronic circuit boards imported last year
Officials informed the chief minister that the policy is designed to reduce dependency on imported electronic components, enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities and focus on export-oriented growth.
Notably, India imported electronic circuit boards worth $70 billion last year, underscoring the massive demand in the sector.
The chief minister highlighted the urgent need for self-reliance in electronics and achieving the broader goals of the Make in India initiative. He called for large-scale manufacturing initiatives from Andhra Pradesh to tap into global demand and to establish the Stateās own brand of electronic products.
CM Naidu stressed that the new policy should support large-scale production and urged officials to create a favourable ecosystem alongside industry development.
Setting up electronics manufacturing clusters in AP
He directed the preparation of a detailed action plan to attract $50-100 billion in investments into the electronics components sector.
Given the increasing scarcity of industrial land in metropolitan areas like Bengaluru and Chennai, Andhra Pradesh holds a strategic advantage, he noted. Regions such as Sri City (near Tirupati), Orvakal (near Kurnool), Kopparthy and Hindupur were identified as ideal locations for setting up electronics manufacturing clusters.
He also reiterated the governmentās commitment to promoting entrepreneurship under the vision of āOne Family, One Entrepreneur.ā
Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati as IT sector destinations
The chief minister also highlighted Visakhapatnam, Amaravati and Tirupati as prime destinations for establishing IT companies.
He proposed allocating space for 500 IT companies in these regions, which could generate substantial employment. Alongside the IT and ITeS industries in Visakhapatnam, CM Naidu suggested developing manufacturing zones along the Lepakshi-Orvakal corridor.
He directed the development of co-working spaces in these emerging hubs and instructed officials to focus on expanding job opportunities in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and other urban centres across the State.
The CM also emphasised the importance of aligning skill development initiatives with evolving industry requirements by integrating the Stateās skill portal with other digital platforms. He called for curriculum updates in educational institutions to prepare students for emerging opportunities at the state, national and global levels.
