Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said that the Commercial Taxes Department recorded a 6 per cent increase in revenue over the previous year.
He also mentioned that, although the department had aimed to collect Rs 600 crore in March through CST and VAT, it managed to achieve approximately Rs 500 crore in collections.
Bhatti Vikramarka chaired a key meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on resource mobilisation at the Dr BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on Monday. The meeting focused on reviewing departmental performances and outlining future strategies to enhance State revenues.
āNeed to increase sales of agricultural land and open plotsā
Speaking on the occasion, Bhatti Vikramarka termed the progress encouraging but emphasised the need for a structured plan to sustain and accelerate the momentum. He also directed officials to identify and plug any revenue leakages in the Excise Department.
Although there has been a surge in the sale of apartments and flats, he pointed out that the expected growth in the sale of agricultural lands and open plots is yet to be realised. The ministers instructed officials to analyse the market trends and implement appropriate measures to stimulate transactions in these segments.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system
Focusing on enforcement, the sub-committee recommended the widespread implementation of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system across departments to enhance vehicular tracking and tax compliance. The Transport Department was urged to expand its usage to enable large-scale inspections and improve regulatory efficiency.
Addressing issues related to tribal welfare, the sub-committee emphasised that sand sales in tribal areas must be conducted exclusively through tribal societies. Officials were instructed to identify genuine tribal beneficiaries and ensure that they are formally enrolled as members to receive the associated income benefits. The ministers stressed the importance of accurate implementation to ensure the intended impact.
Officials told to protect govt land
Additionally, the Revenue Department was asked to identify and secure valuable government lands in the districts.
Immediate protective actions were recommended to prevent unauthorised occupation. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) was also urged to accelerate the issuance of construction permits to facilitate planned urban development
