Forests For Good: For every P&G product purchased, Flipkart will plant a tree in Karnataka

Procter & Gamble India (P&G) has tied up with e-commerce giant `Flipkart’ to launch the `Forests For Good’ initiative.

Under this initiative, the companies aim to establish four forests in Karnataka, which consumers can e-adopt.

P&G and Flipkart are working with social enterprise EcoMatcher and technology partner SayTrees to execute the Forests For Good initiative.

EcoMatcher and SayTrees use blockchain technology to ensure traceability and full transparency with tree-planting projects. This means that everyone who adopts a tree can view its location, maturity, and CO2 sequestered.

The Forests For Good initiative is open to anyone who buys P&G products from Flipkart. For every P&G product purchased, Flipkart will plant a tree in one of the four forests.

P&G and Flipkart are committed to sustainability and have several other initiatives in place to reduce their environmental impact. P&G has achieved plastic waste neutrality in India and has pledged to be net zero by 2040.

Flipkart has also committed to being net-zero by 2040 and has eliminated single-use plastic packaging from its platform.

The Forests For Good initiative is a further step by P&G and Flipkart to make a positive impact on the environment. By working together, they hope to inspire consumers to take action and help to create a more sustainable future.

Here are some of the key sustainability initiatives that P&G has undertaken in India:

- Plastic packaging waste neutral: P&G achieved plastic waste neutrality in India in 2022. This means that the company collected, processed, and recycled over 19,000 MT of post-consumer plastic packaging waste from across the country.

- Pledge to be net-zero by 2040: P&G has put forth a new ambition to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations and supply chain, from raw material to retailer, by the year 2040.

- Leveraging solar energy across its 2 plants: P&G has committed to setting up two more in-house solar plants at its manufacturing sites in Goa and Mandideep. This will help the company to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and contribute towards a cleaner environment.

- Sustainable Sourcing: P&G and Solvay have joined forces in an industry-leading effort to double the global supply of sustainable guar farmed in India. Guar is a natural ingredient with many uses in personal care products like shampoos and lotions. This initiative will positively impact the lives of more than 21,000 people and promote sustainable guar production within the Bikaner district of Rajasthan, India.
