Re Sustainability rolls out ‘Green Ganesha 2025’, to distribute 15,000 seed-embedded clay idols
Hyderabad: Re Sustainability Limited (ReSL), this festive season, has launched the ‘Green Ganesha 2025’ campaign and the new waste collection app ‘Aakri,’ to promote a circular economy and responsible living.
The launch at My Home Bhooja had actor-advocates Tanikella Bharani and Madhu Shalini participate in the event.
The Green Ganesha Campaign
In partnership with 92.7 BIG FM, ReSL is scaling up its Green Ganesha campaign by distributing 15,000 eco-friendly, seed-embedded idols made of natural clay.
This initiative directly addresses the significant environmental damage caused by traditional Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols, which generated over 6,000 tonnes of post-immersion waste in Hussain Sagar Lake in 2024.
The campaign encourages citizens to immerse the idols in flowerpots at home, allowing them to grow into plants and help protect water bodies from pollution. The campaign also features a city-wide paper collection drive to recycle wastepaper into large Ganesha sculptures.
What are Green Ganeshas?
Biodegradable Materials: Made from natural materials like clay, mud, paper pulp or even natural dyes.
Reduces Pollution: When immersed, they dissolve easily in water, preventing the pollution caused by PoP idols that don’t dissolve and release harmful chemicals.
Seed Ganesha: Some idols have seeds in them and they can be immersed in the garden, which will bring life to new plants.
Introducing the Aakri App
ReSL introduced ‘Aakri - Powered by Re Sustainability,’ a new app-based platform for doorstep waste collection. The app schedules pickups of recyclables, sanitary waste, and domestic waste for reuse.
One lakh users
Over 1 lakh people have come on the platform and are using the facilities.
According to Masood Mallick, Managing Director and CEO of ReSL, “Sustainability is a shared duty, and together, small actions can create extraordinary impact.” Sunil Kumaran, CEO of 92.7 BIG FM, emphasised the power of media to drive social change, stating, “We hope to create a movement where every celebration leaves behind not waste, but life.”
