Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy led a delegation of senior officials in a meeting with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to discuss possible financial support for major infrastructure projects in the State. The CM was accompanied by prominent Hyderabad Metro Rail officials, including managing director NVS Reddy, as part of his delegation to Japan
The talks focused on Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2, Musi River rejuvenation and the development of radial roads connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR).
Focus on Metro Rail Phase 2
The chief minister presented the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2 project as a key proposal, outlining a total estimated investment of Rs 24,269 crore. He noted that the project is currently under active consideration by the Government of India as a joint venture with the Telangana government.
Telangana is seeking JICAās assistance for the 48 per cent loan component of the project, which amounts to approximately Rs 11,693 crore. CM Revanth emphasised that the State is adhering to all foreign debt funding norms set by the Central government.
Urban transformation projects
During the meeting, CM Revanth also pitched the Musi River rejuvenation project and the expansion of radial roads as part of the governmentās broader urban transformation plans. These projects aim to improve connectivity, environmental sustainability and the overall urban landscape of Hyderabad.
He shared his vision of transforming Hyderabad into a city comparable to international urban centres like New York and Tokyo.
Investor-friendly policies highlighted
Addressing JICAās leadership, including senior vice president Shohei Hara, the chief minister outlined Telanganaās investor-friendly policies and the growing appeal of Hyderabad as a global investment hub. He provided a comprehensive overview of the cityās infrastructure growth and future development prospects.
JICA responds positively
Shohei Hara acknowledged the long-standing cooperation between JICA and Telangana. He encouraged the Telangana government to continue coordinating with the Government of India to move forward with eligible projects.
āPlease pursue the Metro Rail and other infrastructure proposals with the Government of India so that JICA can consider extending its support,ā he stated during the meeting.
