Toshiba invests Rs 347 crore in Telangana; foundation laid for new manufacturing hubs
Hyderabad: Intending to position Telangana as a global manufacturing hub, Japanese giant Toshiba has registered its investments in the State, totalling Rs 347 crore for expanding and launching new manufacturing units.
The investments include a new EHVT power transformer plant, a CRGO Core Processing Centre and a Surge Arrester Unit, all located at Rudraram in Sangareddy district.
On Friday, IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu laid the foundation stone for the Rs 177 crore expansion of the Extra High Voltage Transformer (EHVT) plant and inaugurated the two new state-of-the-art facilities worth Rs 65 crore and Rs 105 crore, respectively.
Telangana to create industrial output of Rs 2.77 lakh crore by year-end
Minister Sridhar Babu emphasised Telanganaās rapid growth in the industrial sector. He said the State is projected to achieve an industrial output of Rs 2.77 lakh crore in 2024ā25, with manufacturing contributing nearly 48 per cent of that.
āMerchandise exports worth Rs 1 lakh crore have already been recorded in just nine months,ā he said. āTelanganaās GSDP growth stands at 8.2 per cent, well above the national average, reflecting our strategic focus on economic development.ā
Surge in domestic electricity demand expected
With the demand for electricity expected to double in India by 2040, Telangana is aligning its industrial development with the countryās future energy needs.
āThe Economic Survey 2024ā25 projects a surge in domestic electricity demand. To meet this, weāre aggressively attracting investments in clean and renewable energy,ā the Minister said.
He noted that under the Stateās Clean and Green Energy Policy 2025, Telangana has already attracted Rs 29,000 crore in investments and is working toward adding 20,000 MW of renewable capacity by 2030.
Exclusive green energy equipment zones coming up
To support further investment, the government is establishing dedicated Green Energy Equipment Zones. These will cater to sectors like batteries, power components and smart grids, and are aimed at attracting global manufacturers.
āToshiba is not only investing in manufacturing but is also working with the state to set up an R&D hub for smart energy solutions,ā the minister added. āTelangana offers vast opportunities in clean tech, robotics, semiconductors, and advanced manufacturing, and we welcome global players to explore them.ā
A direct rebuttal to MoU criticism
Addressing scepticism surrounding MoUs signed by the government, Sridhar Babu said, āSome critics claim our MoUs are superficial. But todayās developments are a direct and credible rebuttal. Itās not just promises, itās implementation on the ground.ā
He pointed out that during a government delegationās visit to Japan in April, Telangana signed an MoU with Toshiba worth Rs 562 crore. āJust months later, weāre already laying foundations and inaugurating new units. This is a sign of how fast and seriously we operate.ā
