CAT reinstates Jasti Krishna Kishore as Income Tax commissioner

Hyderabad: Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) quashed the AP government's decision to suspend IRS officer Jasti Krishna Kishore and reinstated him as principal commissioner of the Income Tax department.

The AP government had accused Krishna of misappropriation of funds when he was posted as CEO of AP Economic Development Board (APEDB). He was placed under suspension and, ACB and CID were ordered to probe into his dealings.

Hearing the matter, the bench headed by Justice L Narasimha Reddy quashed the government’s suspension order and reinstated Krishna as income tax commissioner, the post he was holding during TDP regime in Andhra Pradesh.

The bench however clarified that the state can still pursue its case against the IRS officer.

Krishna was shifted by YSRCP government to state’s general administration department after it came to power in 2019. Later the state government accused him of irregularities and placed him under suspension.

Krishna filed a petition in CAT challenging the government’s decision. Krishna’s Counsel Niraj Malhotra, prayed before the court that he should repatriated to his parent department and his position of principal commissioner of Income Tax department should be restored.

The CAT previously had pulled up the AP government for non-payment of Jasti Krishna Kishore’s salary.
