Here is why Hyderabad received rains today

Hyderabad: The cold wave sweeping the State, notwithstanding, people from Telangana, including those in Hyderabad, will be welcomed into 2020 by light to moderate showers. In fact, a prelude came in the form of a drizzle early Tuesday morning.

The latest forecast from Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) says, “The sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy. Light rain is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 and 22 Deg Celsius, respectively.”

On Sunday, an unprecedented 7.1 degree Celsius dip was seen in Adilabad, which marked commencement of the cold wave due to north-easterly winds from Himalaya’s. Tuesday’s forecast is that for the next three days, there will light showers in different parts of Telangana, with mercury falling to a minimum of 19 degree Celsius in Hyderabad.

Chief Meteorologist for Skymet, Mahesh Palawat, explained, “A confluence zone has been formed over Vidharbha and Telangana, due to easterly winds from Bay of Bengal and westerly winds from Arabian Sea. This has led to cloud formation and there will be light to moderate rains in Telangana, till January 3.”

In Delhi, mercury dropped to 2 degree Celsius on Monday and the cold waves affected almost the entire north India, most of which are covered with dense fog leading to delay or cancellation of trains and flights.

Mr Palawat said. “The temperature will also increase in northern states, especially Delhi as the northern winds are now departing.”

The IMD also said that some parts of coastal Andhra will also see light to moderate rains.
