CBI books Hyderabad GST officer in Rs 1.27 Cr assets case

Janardhana Rao serving as superintendent in the computer section of GST Commissionerate. The accused has illegally amassed wealth to the tune of Rs 1.27 Crore.
Investigation revealed that, the accused officer illegal amassed wealth 65.40 % against his legal source of income.
The tainted officer allegedly indulged in corrupt practices and amassed assets at various places, he acquired movable and immovable properties on his and his wife Sailaja's name.
According to FIR, Sailaja did not impart any tuition and it was suspected that she projected these sources of income to income tax authorities with an ulterior motive to disguise the ill-gotten wealth of her husband.
She declared income from profession and business, income from tuition, rental and other sources along with agriculture income in income tax returns.
Accused K. Janardhana Rao joined Central Excise department as an Inspector in 1992 and worked in various Commissionerates. He also worked as a Superintendent, Anti-Evasion, Hyderabad GST Commissionerate from November 2017 to August 2020.
