Charred body of techies wife found in elevator at Chandanagar, police suspect suicide

Hyderabad: A 31-year-old wife of a techie died under suspicious circumstances in her apartment at Chandanagar.

Her charred body was found in the apartment elevator on Tuesday. Police suspect the victim K Sravanti, an MBA graduate, ended her life after being unable to bear her husband K Santosh's harassment. Santosh is a techie working with Cognizant.

According to police, the couple got married three years ago and have a two-year-old son. They were residing at Muppa Green Grandeur, a gated community at Chandanagar.

At 3.40 am on Tuesday, the security staff found a body in the lift that reached the cellar. A few minutes later, the security received an SOS call from flat no E-305. When the security team rushed to the flat, the owner Santosh informed them that his wife Sravanti was missing.

The staff informed him about the charred body found in the cellar. Later the body was identified as Sravanti. Chandanagar police registered a case and started an investigation. They found that she had in the past filed a case of harassment against her husband.

Later after counseling, they compromised and the case was withdrawn. Since then they were staying together in the same flat.

However, he allegedly started harassing her again, due to which she killed herself. Further analysis of CCTV footage, police found that she ran into the elevator engulfed in flames. It was also found that on Monday night, she went out of the campus and returned with a plastic can. It is suspected that she purchased petrol from a nearby fuel station to end her life.
