Chiranjeevi’s thirst for a patriotic film comes true after 20 years with Sye Raa

Chiranjeevi waited for 20 years for a Telugu director who could come up with a story of such magnanimity.
It was during the sets of Shankardada MBBS that Chiru happened to hear the word Sye Raa, when senior artiste Parachuri Venkateswara Rao told him the story of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. Parachuri thought that only an actor like Chiranjeevi could do justice to the role.
To bring to life the story of Sye Raa, back in 2004 the cost was pegged around Rs 60 crores for any producer. Later, Chiranjeevi became busy with the sequel of Shankar Dada MBBS and had to shelve the project. In the years to come, Chiranjeevi forayed into active politics and got busy with his activity in public life.
Chiranjeevi had said then that he had doubted if his fans would like to see him play a character who sacrifices his life for the people of the land. Chiru has been playing mainstream roles of fights, dance and romantic scenes in the movies. After his movie Khaidi No 150, it was S.S. Rajamouli's Bahubaali that actually given Chiru hope and courage to do Sye Raa as a large scale project full time. When he asked his son Ram Charan, he replied saying it would be unfair to put producers in great risk as it needed large investment. Finally, Chiru gave the nod to his son to produce the movie.
Once in a lifetime opportunity, the movie Sye Raa depicts that story of freedom fighter Narasimha Reddy that dates hundred years back from India's Independence in 1947.
