Vijayawada: The Congress party has decided to appoint former union minister MM Pallam Raju as new Pradesh Congress Committee president for Andhra Pradesh, replacing N Raghu Veera Reddy, according to sources. The official announcement will come from the AICC shortly.
As Raghu Veera Reddy refused to continue on the post, the Congress high command proposed Pallam Raju's name. In fact, Raghu Veera Reddy wrote two letters to the AICC president Rahul Gandhi that he would not continue as PCC chief. Taking moral responsibility for the second time utter defeat of the party in the state in his six years long tenure, Raghu Veera Reddy voluntarily took the decision to vacate from president post, party sources added.
He was appointed as Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president in the month of March, 2014, after bifurcation of the then united AP. He has been continuing on the same position from then to till date.
Since Pallam Raju is the senior among the Congress leaders in the state, the AICC decided to appoint him on the top post.
