Hyderabad: Rangareddy district legal metrology department has registered five cases against Ghanshyam Supermarket, Kondapur, for violating Packaged Commodities Rules 2011.

Customer Shyam had complained about the price difference on the ducker (price/offer displays). The supermarket was charging more than the amount mentioned on the tag.

"I had a bad experience at Ghanshyam Super Market. They are misleading customers. They are charging more money than the amount mentioned on the price tag. Fortunately, I saw and pointed it out. Then they started cooking some stories and removed the ducker," said Shyam.

For example: The price of Urad Lose was mentioned Rs 103.20, but they charged him Rs 129.

After the complaint, legal metrology department conducted an inspection of the Super Market on February 10 and registered five cases under Section 18/36 of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009 R/w Rule 6(2) of the Legal Metrology (PC) Rules, 2011.

"If people notice any irregularities regarding packaged items, weight and measures, and MRP, they can write to the legal metrology department at clm-ts@nic.in," the department said.

Activist Vinay Vanga who helped the consumer in registering a complaint said, "Some super markets are attracting customers but misleading them with advertisements which do not reflect in the billing. Please don't get cheated and complain to Legal Metrology Department for the unfair trade practices. Thanks to Sri Jagan Mohan Reddy and team for the quick action".
