Hyderabad: Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, Hyderabad, has asked Jio Mart (Reliance Retail) to pay Rs. 2,000 compensation to a customer for delivering the wrong product.
Complainant Raparthi Gnaneshwar resident of Balanagar on August 4, 2020, had bought "Reeth Rylpr Sona Masuri Rice" of 25 kgs from Jio Mart and made an online payment of Rs.999.
However, he was in for a shock to see that the online store had dispatched rice from some other company.
The complainant called up the company and even sent a mail to the customer care of Jio Mart Consumer Service Head Authority to solve the issue. However, there was no response.
Later, the complainant filed at National Consumer Helpline (NCH) online. Several reminders were also sent to the Opposite Party but to no avail. On the advice of NCH, a legal notice was served to Jio Mart.
Jio Mart did not appear before the commission despite notices.
After observing all the documents and evidence, the Commission said that they have perused the material placed on record and heard the complainant.
In the absence of any rebuttal by the Jio Mart, it is established that the complainant purchased the rice and paid Rs.999.
"On perusal of the mail conversation, Jio Mart replied it would attend to the grievance of the complainant, however, did not do so. Even they received a legal notice to that effect from the complainant, but did not respond," said the Commission.
The Commission asked Jio Mart to refund Rs 999 and pay an amount of Rs.2,000 as compensation and Rs.1,000 as cost.
