Hyderabad: Centre on Tuesday increased Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) price by Rs 50 per cylinder. A 14.2 kilogram domestic LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 1,002 in Hyderabad, up from Rs 952.
This is the first time centre has increased the price of domestic cylinder this year after the election in five states. Petrol and diesel price was also increased by 60 paisa per liter across the country.
Last time centre on October 6 increased Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) price by Rs 15 per cylinder. A 14.2 kilogram domestic LPG cylinder cost was Rs 952 in Hyderabad, up from Rs 937.
Since January 1, 2021, the price of domestic LPG has increased by Rs 256. On January 1, the cost of domestic LPG was Rs 746.50. Prices have remained unchanged for over six months despite the cost escalation in raw materials.
LPG cylinders price vary from one state to another, due to local taxes. However, the government gives some subsidies to people who are economically weak. This subsidy facility is not applicable in metros and major cities.
The price of the LPG gas cylinder is decided by the state-run oil companies and fluctuation in the rates at the international level. Currently, in India, there are over Rs 30 crore LPG gas cylinder connections.
The government provides 12 subsidized LPG cylinders of 14.2 kilograms to a household every year. The amount of the subsidy provided by the government on the annual quota of 12 refills varies from month to month.
