Hyderabad: The Langer House police on 4 April arrested a person for reselling expired food items by changing the expiry dates. They seized expired Hadiram food products worth more than Rs. 1 lakh.

On Sunday, the police raided Jai Sri Ram Agencies in Bapu Nagar, Langer House, and apprehended Komati Laxmi Narayana alias Laxman (40). He was erasing the expiry dates on food products and printing fresh dates with the intention to supply the same to the customers and shopkeepers.

The police seized expired Haldiram products worth Rs. 1,50,000 and an auto-rickshaw which was used to supply the products. A case under various sections of the IPC has been registered against Narayana. The police also seized rubber stamps used to change the manufacturing and expiry dates on the food items.

Mahalaxmi Bakery in Nizamabad fined Rs 4,000 for overcharging soft drinks

The Nizamabad district Legal Metrology department fined Mahalaxmi Bakery at Vinayak Nagar in Nizamabad Rs 4,000 after a complainant, Abraham, said the bakery is overcharging for packaged juice and water.

Upon receiving the complaint, the legal meteorology team of the district on 31 March conducted an inspection against the Mahalaxmi Bakery. During the course of inspection, it was noticed that there was no price violation on the packaged drinking water. But, the person in charge has collected Rs 4 extra above the MRP of Rs 58 on a one litre soft drink bottle, and Rs 5 extra on a 1.25 litre Thums Up bottle whose MRP is Rs 65.

The team registered a case against the bakery for violating Rule 18(2) of the Legal Metrology (PC) Rules, 2011, and the same was compounded for an amount of Rs 4,000 for the violation.
