CoronaVirus: 186 people stranded in Kuala Lumpur arrive at Vizag

Andhra Pradesh: Around 186 people who were stuck in Kuala Lumpur, most of the students from Andhra Pradesh, arrived at Vishakapatnam airport on 18 March, much to the relief of their families and friends.

Videos of the students seeking help from the government to evacuate them from Kuala Lumpur following the lockdown had gone viral. The messages had caused panic among the families of the AP students.

The government of India arranged a special flight, AirAsia 370, to bring the 186 people to Vizag. All of them were subjected to thermal screening at the airport. The Andhra Pradesh government set up isolation centers close to the airport. The passengers will have to undergo tests and will be quarantined. The AP health department had special buses ferry the passengers to the isolated wards.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Naval Command has set up a quarantine camp at INS Vishwakarma in Vizag for Indians being evacuated from COVID-19 affected countries. The isolation wards can house up to 200 individuals.

"The Quarantine Camp is fully equipped to accommodate nearly 200 personnel with all suitable facilities and other arrangements. The evacuated personnel in the camp will be closely monitored to ensure Social Distancing and under medical supervision in accordance with the protocols laid down by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India by a team of naval personnel and medical professionals' said the authorities.
