Coronvirus: Nellore on tenterhooks after Italy returned student tests positive

Nellore: A local student who had returned from Italy has tested positive for coronavirus in Nellore.

Sources said the district administration was informed about the test results on Tuesday evening.

Soon after, an emergency meeting was held to discuss the measures in case the National Institute of Virology (NIV) Pune also confirms the test reports of SVIMS. But the officials are still tightlipped.

Joint Collector Dr Vinod Kumar Vasudev, Municipal Commissioner PVVS Murthy and DM&HO Dr G Rajya Lakshmi have deployed special teams of Anganwadi teachers and Asha workers in 42 and 49 divisions of Nellore city to create awareness and avoid panic

It may be recalled that Italy returned student had been home quarantined soon after he arrived in India. After he complained of dry cough, he was admitted to the isolation ward at the Government General Hospital.

Later his samples were sent to SVIMS for investigations. The preliminary test came back positive for the virus. Authorities are now waiting for the final report from the National Institute of Virology, Pune.
