56 UK returnees in Andhra Pradesh yet to traced, six test positive for COVID-19

A total of 1,214 people have returned to Andhra Pradesh from the United Kingdom in the last one month and 1,158 of them have been traced so far. Efforts are on to trace the remaining 56, the state said on 26 December.

Vijayawada:A total of 1,214 people have returned to Andhra Pradesh from the United Kingdom in the last one month and 1,158 of them have been traced so far. Efforts are on to trace the remaining 56, the state said on 26 December.

The health commissioner, Katamaneni Bhaskar, said 1,101 UK returnees have been shifted to quarantine centres and six of them have tested positive for COVID-19. Of the six, two are from Guntur and one each is from East Godavari, Krishna, Anantapur, and Nellore districts.

"Fresh samples of the four COVID-19 cases have been sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and the National Institute of Virology to confirm if they have tested positive for the new strain of coronavirus. It will take three days to get the results," the health commissioner said.

Meanwhile, the official machinery of Visakhapatnam initiated steps to trace and isolate the people who returned to the district from the UK in the last four weeks. The district medical and health officer of Vizag, P. Suryanarayana said a 15-member surveillance team is tracing the UK returnees and almost all of them have been traced. It has been more than 14 days since the arrival of most of them from the UK. One person who returned to Dumbriguda in Vizag Agency from the UK is yet to be traced.
