Vijayawada: Ahead of the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out on 16 January, the Andhra Pradesh health department received about 4,96,680 vaccine doses on 2 January.

The consignment containing the vaccine arrived in a special flight at Gannavaram airport in Vijayawada on Tuesday afternoon. Since the state vaccine store is also located in Gannavaram, the vaccine will be transported to the regional vaccine stores and consequently to all the districts in insulated vaccine vans.

The state health department officials said that 19 insulated vaccine vans are available with the department to maintain the vaccine temperature between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius during transportation. The state has identified 1,940 session sites for the first phase vaccination drive in Andhra Pradesh.

It has completed the arrangements for the mass inoculation process that will cover about 3.6 lakh health care workers in the first phase. Andhra Pradesh currently has 3.76 lakh litres of cold chain space for COVID-19 vaccination. The state officials have already completed the data aggregation and uploading of the first phase beneficiaries (health care workers) on Co-Win app.

The Vizag district administration said that tribal people will also get the COVID-19 vaccine in Vizag Agency. They have identified five centres - Araku Valley, Paderu, Pedabayalu, Chintapalle, and RJ Palem- for the vaccination.
