Highest single-day spike of 5,926 COVID-19 cases, 18 deaths in Telangana

The previous highest single-day spike was on April 17 when the state reported 5,093 COVID positive cases.
The overall tally has touched 3,61,359 in the state.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area on Monday reported 793 new cases. Neighboring Rangareddy district reported 455 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 488 and Sangareddy 184 new cases.
Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Monday reported 444 new cases while Kamareddy reported 262 cases, Khammam 247, Warangal Urban reported 208 cases and Jagtial reported 205 cases.
The state reported eighteen new deaths on April 19 taking the overall toll to 1,856. The fatality rate in the state is 0.51 percent which is less than the national average of 1.2 percent.
Around 2,209 citizens recovered from the infection on Monday taking total recoveries to 3,16,650 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 87.62 percent, which is approximately two percent higher than the national average of 85.6 percent.
The state has 42,853 active cases currently. The data of under home isolation patients were removed from the bulletin on Monday.
The government tested 1,22,143 citizens on Monday. So far 1,19,42,985 samples have been tested in the state. Samples tested per million population stand at 3,20,875. Reports of 6,033 samples are awaited. The state tested 49.5 percent primary contacts while 12.2 percent secondary contacts.
There are only 20 Government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centers in the state. Around 60 private centers too are operational. On Monday, 1,09,048 tests were conducted at government centers, while 13,095 tests were conducted at Private centers.
Also, 81.1 percent of patients were asymptomatic, while 18.9 percent are symptomatic.
Meanwhile, India reported a slight decline of 259,170 in the number of fresh coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Tuesday, according to MoHFW.
