New COVID Strain: Around 1200 passengers landed in Hyderabad since December 12

The Telangana government on December 23 said that they have identified around 1200 passengers have arrived from the UK since December 12. The government also informed that none of these passengers has tested positive for COVID-19.

New COVID Strain: Around 1200 passengers landed in Hyderabad since December 12

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on December 23 said that they have identified around 1200 passengers have arrived from the UK since December 12. The government also informed that none of these passengers have tested positive for COVID-19.

"We are collecting details of those who have arrived from the UK and examining their health condition. We have found that 1200 people have come to Telangana from the UK since December 9 so far. We are doing medical tests for everyone. We are inquiring about their health condition. None of those tested who came from the UK has so far have tested COVID-19 positive. The medical staffs are visiting them for the test" said Dr G Srinivas Rao, Director of Public Health and Family welfares

The Telangana Medical Health Department has been alerted following the arrival of a new strain of coronavirus. "We are tracing, testing and providing treatment to prevent the spread of the virus," said Dr G Srinivas Rao.

On the 8th of December, scientists monitoring the pandemic in the United Kingdom detected a new strain of SARS-CoV-2 following a high number of cases. This has sent alarming signals to the world resulting in India temporarily banning flights from the UK until December 31st.

In a fresh statement, the Ministry of Health has called for enhanced epidemiological surveillance and containment in the country. The ministry has dashed off a letter to the state and UTs.
